Late Rapper Dominates Metro FM Music Awards with Four Wins

Late South African rapper AKA's legacy lives on as he won multiple awards posthumously at the recent Metro FM Music Awards. AKA, born Kiernan Forbes, passed away in February this year, but his father, Tony Forbes, believes that his son is now brimming with joy in heaven. AKA received four accolades out of six nominations at the event held at Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga.

AKA's father shared his emotions with Genius Media saying, "We came here hoping that he will win one or two because Supa Mega is just Supa Mega. But we got more. I know he is watching where he is and he is happy like us. In fact, he is proud of the work he put in. The awards that really make me proud include the Best Hip-Hop Artist and Artist of The Year."

Apart from AKA's success, the awards ceremony also saw other talented artists win recognition for their hard work. Boohle and her team took home two awards – Best Amapiano and Best Viral Challenge for their song Hamba Wena. Nduduzo Makhathini won Best Jazz Album, while ZukoSA received Best Afropop Album. Coco SA was named Best New Artist, and Pastor Lungi Ndala won the coveted Best Gospel Award.

DJ Tira managed to take home two awards – Best Kwaito/Gqom Song and Best Music Video. The ceremony also featured stunning performances from artists such as Nasty C, Bethusile, Sjava, and Big Zulu. The event opened with a performance from DJ Tira and Big Nuz, accompanied by Babes Wodumo, who looked emotional after performing.

Latecomers Rami Chuene and Brenda Mtambo also stole the limelight with their fashion choices on the black carpet. Makhadzi also made a grand entrance as she accepted her first Metro Music Award in the Best Female Artist Category. Despite arriving late after her trip to Namibia was cancelled, Makhadzi expressed her belief that the award belonged to her, saying, "I believe in myself because I work hard. I am honoured."
